Has anyone out there had experience selling on Artfire? What does everyone think about it compared to Etsy?

I've never tried it ... I'm always afraid of spreading myself too thin, or of listing my stuff somewhere and forgetting about it. So I've stuck with just Etsy so far.

I've listed one item on it but haven't got round to listing any more. I had a brief flurry of views when I listed it and nothing since. I guess, like Etsy, youhave to work at it to keep the potential buyers comingin.

I have sold more on ArtFire than any other venue I have tried so far. They really seem to capture the search engine traffic for me. I agree that spreading yourself too thin can lead to disaster, but as long as you are organized, selling in multiple venues increases your exposure. Each venue reaches a different audience. I use Excel to keep shop listings in order. Etsy is the only venue I pay for, and even though I spend time in the forum, virtual labs, and on chat it has not outperformed.

I've never heard of Artfire before reading this thread, but after reading through it, it seems to have a lot to offer! I will let you know how my selling goes.

suzanne,
Thank you for the great comment. I have been thinking about giving Artfire a shot. Much appreciated.

I had an Artfire account for quite a while, but I recently deleted it due to lack of sales. I sold absolutely nothing there and the price of a pro account was a little too much for me. While I appreciated the fact that they allowed me to list my stuff for free with a basic account, I wasn't getting any business out of it and it was more of a hassle to have to remember to remove the items that sold on Etsy from my Artfire account. That's not to say it won't work for someone else, of course.

I've had an Artfire account for as long as I've had an Etsy account, unfortunately I almost never sell anything on Artfire. AF has some great seller features that make listing and selling much easier, tools Etsy should have. At some of the pros suggestions, I have even re worded my item titles since I was told the SEO would only pick up on one title- still nothing. I'm going to keep my AF open though the holiday, after that if I still haven't sold anything I'm closing it. It's a real shame since they really do seem to help sellers and listen to suggestions far more than Etsy admin.
